Manitoba authorities investigate record number of homicides in 2024 [Video]

Manitoba hit a grim record in 2024 – reaching the highest number of homicides being investigated.

Authorities investigated a total of 99 homicides in 2024. It’s the most homicides on record, according to Statistics Canada data dating as far back as 1961.

It’s also more than double the number recorded 10 years ago, with 45 homicides being in Manitoba in 2014.

Manitoba RCMP said it investigated 58 homicides in 2024. That’s a spike of 25 more homicides compared to the 33 homicides in 2023.

RCMP said 26 homicide investigations occurred in its north district, 23 in its west, and nine in the east district in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Winnipeg Police Service said it dealt with 41 homicides in 2024, down slightly from the 46 it investigated in 2023.

According to Statistics Canada, 2022 had the second-highest number of homicides on record with a total of 89.
