Manitoba PC, NDP and Liberals launch campaigns as the election officially begins Tuesday [Video]

Manitoba Progressive Conservative leader Heather Stefanson began the first official day of the 2023 Manitoba election on Tuesday to issue her party’s promises. “Manitobans should see the benefits from having the cleanest, greenest energy in the country and we take issue with the carbon tax” Stefanson said. Regarding the ongoing provincial labour disputes, Stefanson cast the blame on the unions and the NDP for “playing politics, and Manitobans are dealing with the consequences.”
Manitoba New Democratic Party leader Wab Kinew issued his response to the PC Party’s promises saying he would “deliver affordability by freezing hydro rates and dropping the gas tax.” Kinew also identified healthcare as a key focus of the campaign, promising to restore access to services by building healthcare centres. Manitoba Liberal leader Dougald Lamont compared the opposition saying “when it comes to the other two parties, the PCs and NDP are offering the exact same policies.” He added that “the leaders in this race are representing the opposite of what their parties stand for.”
Global Winnipeg checked in with voters on what issues they’re prioritizing. Kaitlin Fehr says her focus is on health care and crime. “A lot of people think accessing health care is a walk in the park but you’re waiting six months to a year for a simple exam.” Donna Friesen says she’s really disappointed with how the current government has treated unions. “The fact that they let a contract go overdue for so long leaves everyone in an inconvenient position.”
