Manitoba weather: Heat warning in effect [Video]

Nearly all of southern Manitoba is under a heat warning.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued an update Wednesday afternoon, putting most of the province, with the exception of the north, under the warning.

According to the weather agency, the warm temperatures come as an upper-level ridge settles over the Prairies.

It notes that daytime highs reaching 32 C and overnight lows of 16 C will continue through Thursday.

Humidex values are expected to reach 40 for Thursday and Friday.

“A slight reprieve is likely beginning late Friday into the weekend as the warmest air shifts southward, though temperatures will remain well above seasonal into early next week,” ECCC said in its warning.

ECCC is warning extreme heat can affect everyone’s health. The effects of heat illness include swelling, rashes, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
