A special weather statement has been issued across Cape Breton, warning of a “significant” winter storm.

Environment Canada says snow is expected to be heaviest over the Highlands Sunday into Monday.

Northwesterly wind gusts may also reach up to 100 km/h across the island.

“Strong winds accompanying the snow will cause reduced visibility at times in blowing snow. Travel could become difficult. If you must travel, be prepared for delays and allow extra time to reach your destination,” the statement reads.

The statement does not say exactly how much snow is expected to fall.
