Freezing rain has closed schools in parts of New Brunswick Wednesday, while additional weather alerts have been issued ahead of a developing storm that will bring rain and strong winds to the Maritimes Thursday.

There is a two-hour delay for all schools in New Brunswick’s Anglophone North School District due to the freezing rain.

Anglophone School District West says schools in Zone 1 are closed Wednesday. Schools in the Francophone Northwest School District are also closed due to poor road conditions.

In Nova Scotia, buses serving Strait Regional Centre for Education and Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education schools are travelling on paved roads only. CSAP also says busses to École NDA in Chéticamp, N.S., are cancelled Wednesday due to high winds.

A freezing rain warning is in effect Wednesday morning across western and central New Brunswick. Environment Canada says there is some uncertainty surrounding the duration and intensity of the freezing rain.
