Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has taken a swipe at Sir Keir Starmer by saying his country ‘weren’t impressed’ by the UK offering a second state visit to Donald Trump.
Mr Carney said the invitation ‘cut across’ messages his government is trying to send to the White House in response to threats against Canada‘s sovereignty.
It comes after Trump humiliated the Canadian PM in the Oval Office this month as he doubled down on his ’51st state’ plans.
The relationship between the US and its neighbor has been undermined by the president’s talk of annexing Canada, and his imposition of huge tariffs.
