Mark Carney’s Chances Against Pierre Poilievre: Recent Polls [Video]

Canada’s Liberal Leader Mark Carney is expected to beat Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre in a snap election, according to recent polls.

Newsweek contacted the press contacts for Canada’s Liberal and Conservative Parties via their respective website forms on Sunday.

Why It Matters

In January, Justin Trudeau announced he was resigning as Canada’s prime minister. Carney, the former governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, won a leadership election and called a snap election after nine days in office.

Advance polls opened Friday in the election. In Canada votes are cast for parties, not for leaders, and the leader of the party that wins the most seats traditionally becomes the head of government.
