Measles exposure possible on flight into Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga [Video]

Public health officials say passengers who recently flew from Tokyo to Toronto might have been exposed to measles.

Toronto Public Health announced on Wednesday that an individual with a confirmed case of measles was on board Air Canada Flight AC 002 on March 2. The flight landed at Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and the person was in terminal 1 from about 4:50 p.m. to 7:40 p.m.

In a news release, health officials said measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs, sneezes or talks. It can stay in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours and people can become infected if they breathe contaminated air or touch an infected surface before touching their eyes, nose or mouth.
