Out-of-this-world home security video captured an extraordinary sight, and a sound never recorded before. It happened last July on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Just a few steps from Joe Velaidum’s house, he missed a surprise from the sky by minutes. “It landed right between my legs where I was standing,” he told CTV.A meteorite crash-landed on his home’s walkway. Hoping to confirm what he saw on his camera, Velaidum sent his home security video and pictures to Chris Herd, an expert in meteorites at the University of Alberta. Herd confirmed that it was indeed a meteorite and that it was a history-making moment. “The first time we’ve ever had a recorded fall of a meteorite hitting the surface of earth with sound included,” Herd said.Herd believes the meteorite likely broke from an asteroid between Mars and Jupiter. “It’s remarkable because it’s never really been heard before,” he said.
