Missouri U.S. Senator proposes Monday after Easter as a federal holiday [Video]

WASHINGTON, DC (KY3/KAIT) – Missouri U.S. Senator Eric Schmitt introduced a bill establishing the Monday after Easter Sunday as a federal holiday.

The Republican introduced the Easter Monday Act of 2025 on April 14. A federal holiday is a nationally recognized non-working day for government employees and businesses that observe it.

“Despite only two-thirds of Americans identifying as Christian, more than 80% of Americans celebrate Easter each year,” Schmitt said. “The current lack of a federal Easter Holiday significantly limits Americans’ ability to celebrate with friends, family, and church communities.”

Many other countries have already designated Easter Monday as a national holiday, including Canada, Australia, the UK, Italy, Spain, and South Africa. Schmitt claims the bill is pro-family and will allow families who do not live nearby extra time to travel and celebrate together.
