There are mixed reactions to the demise of the Canadian chocolate Cherry Blossom.
Hershey’s Canada quietly announced the Cherry Blossom chocolate candy will be discontinued in early 2025, according to multiple news reports.
The iconic candy consists of a maraschino cherry surrounded by sweet cherry syrup coated in chocolate with coconut and pieces of roasted peanuts. It has been sold in its signature square yellow box for decades.
One of Canada’s oldest candies, the Cherry Blossom was manufactured in Quebec the 1890s, according to some reports. Other reports indicate the candy was made in Walter M. Lowney Factory in Montreal, which was built in 1905.
Hershey Canada acquired the Lowney brand in 1989 and moved production to its Smiths Falls, Ontario facility. The Smiths Falls plant closed in 2012 and the Cherry Blossom was then produced in the United States.
