A Mobile Food Market is coming to north Oshawa this summer, with fruits and vegetables for sale at “reasonable” market prices to help address the rising rate of food insecurity across Durham Region.
The market, designed and maintained by Durham College students and operated by Community Care Durham, will be held every Wednesday in the parking lot at North Oshawa Park from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., provided the motion – approved at the committee level this week – also passes at council.
The Mobile Food Market was launched last year after a successful pilot program in Ajax in 2023 and was expanded last year to include a location at Whitby 55+ Recreation Centre. Community Care Durham appealed to Oshawa’s Community and Operations Services Committee Monday to include a location in Oshawa for 2025.
