Mom jumps into pool to save 3-year-old son, both drown [Video]

(Gray News) – A mom and her 3-year-old son both drowned in a residential pool in Canada, officials said.

The tragedy happened in Lachine, a borough in Montreal, late Tuesday evening, according to CTV News.

The Lachine mayor said in a statement on Facebook that the deaths appear to be a tragic accident. The mother reportedly jumped into the pool to save her son, but she did not know how to swim, and both drowned.

The mayor said the chain of events started with a balloon that fell into the pool.

“It was a balloon that fell into the dug pool that triggered a series of actions that led to the drowning of the 3-year-old boy and his 34-year-old mother who tried to save him but unfortunately couldn’t swim,” Lachine Mayor Maja Vodanovic wrote.
