SPOKANE, Wash.– An exploding space rock was seen across multiple states and provinces early Wednesday morning, including in the Inland Northwest.
The fireball was primarily seen in Montana and Alberta, closest to where it exploded around 6:34 local time. Home security cameras captured the bright blue flash as the meteor disintegrated.
The bright light was also noticed from high above by the GOES18 weather satellite according to the National Weather Service. GOES18 is responsible for monitoring weather in Western North America and the Pacific Ocean. One of it’s tools is the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) which detects flashes of light from lightning strikes. The sensitive GLM registered the bright flash of Wednesday morning’s meteor too.
