Montreal under rainfall, freezing rain warnings [Video]

Southern Quebec could see a messy mix of rain and freezing rain beginning Tuesday night.

The Greater Montreal area is under a rainfall warning, with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasting between 30 and 40 millimetres of rainfall into Wednesday evening. The weather warning covers the Gatineau area to the Mauricie region, including Montreal.

The weather agency said an “intense” low pressure system is heading to the region. Since the ground is frozen, there could be significant amounts of water accumulating on roads.

“After that, temperatures are expected to drop overnight Wednesday night possibly leading to flash freezing of ponded water. Roads may become slippery, causing difficult travel conditions and transportation delays Thursday morning,” Environment Canada said.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, ECCC issued a freezing rain warning for the Montreal area.
