Traditions of Durham Oshawa

A third employee and the business itself has now been charged in the 2023 exposure death of a 79-year-old resident at an assisted living facility in Oshawa.

Durham Police were called to Aspira Traditions facility on Bloor Street on April 1, 2023, after the resident was found outside on a bench. Paramedics brought the woman to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy declared exposure to the elements as the cause of death.

The lengthy investigation into her death revealed she entered a stairwell and exited the building at approximately 7:30 p.m. on March 31, 2023. Over the course of the night the woman tried to get back inside but was unable because the doors were locked. She sat on the bench and was found the next morning without vital signs.
