The past week or so has been chaotic in Ottawa, with the resignation of Chrystia Freeland as finance minister intensifying calls for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to step down, including from those within his own party.

While Trudeau is said to be reflecting over the holidays, the prospect of a spring election is looking more and more likely, regardless of whether or not he decides to resign.

That’s particularly because NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has said his party would vote non-confidence in the governing Liberals during the next sitting of the House of Commons.
