Voters in a Mississauga riding have chosen Silvia Gualtieri, the mother of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, as their MPP over former Mayor Bonnie Crombie.

Crombie stepped down as Mississauga mayor last year to lead the Ontario Liberal Party without holding a seat in Queen’s Park, and selected Mississauga East—Cooksville as her riding for the Feb. 27 snap election.

But despite name recognition and leading Mississauga for nine years, Crombie has lost the race to PC Party of Ontario candidate Silvia Gualtieri.

Data from Elections Ontario shows Gualtieri winning the riding with 16,763 votes to Crombie’s 16,536 for a difference of 1,227.
