Milwaukee Public Schools notified employees of a staffing shakeup Wednesday. According to a letter that went to staff, 181 of the employees who work at the district’s central office need to reapply to keep their current position. Dozens will not, and the ones who do could have a different job description.Thursday, Superintendent Brenda Cassellius spoke to WISN 12 News about the changes. “As we look to take a focus on our academics and put resources back into schools and build capacity in schools, that was the impetus of why we made some of these changes,” Cassellius said. Of the 181 positions being “excessed,” only 140 positions will remain. The district plans to have about 40 of the central office employees, who are certified teachers, teach in classrooms.
