A serious multi-vehicle in Cobourg has shut down Highway 401, with the roadway expected to be closed “for some time,” according to OPP.

A narrow band of heavy lake effect snow impacted driving conditions on the stretch of highway east of Oshawa Wednesday morning leading to the crash, which involved tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles.

Northumberland OPP say “injuries are involved.”

The accident happened west of Burnham Street (County Road 18) and traffic is being diverted.

Emergency services including fire and paramedics are on scene.
