Multiple pedestrians have been struck by a vehicle on the campus of a university in Ontario, police say.

Toronto police said it happened on the Nelson Mandela Walk at Toronto Metropolitan University Tuesday afternoon.

Police said emergency crews responded to the scene, which is in the Yonge and Gerrard streets area, shortly before 2 p.m.

The vehicle reportedly did not remain at the scene.

Four people were injured, police said.

Paramedics said two people were sent to hospital, one with minor injuries and the other with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the vehicle involved may have been a dark green sedan with a cracked windshield, last seen travelling eastbound on Gould Street toward Church Street.

A safety alert posted by the university advised people to avoid the area.

“There is an active police investigation involving a motor vehicle accident on Nelson Mandela Walk,” the notice said.

The area was cordoned off with yellow police tape Tuesday afternoon, with several police officers on the scene.
