RCMP are investigating a cybersecurity incident impacting a municipality’s billing system.

A notice posted Friday on the RM of Ritchot’s website said its servers and system are down due to a recent cybersecurity incident.

The incident impacted utility bill processing.

“Notices will be sent once we regain access to our server. It is likely that the due date for bill payment will be extended,” the notice said.

RCMP said it learned of the incident on Dec. 24 and is investigating. It says there does not appear to be any financial loss at this time.

RCMP does not yet know if any requests were made or if any data was stolen, as information still needs to be gathered.

The RM’s notice said its cybersecurity firm is also investigating.

CTV News has reached out to the RM for more information.
