Musical showing true story of kindness on Sept. 11, 2001 brings tour stop to Sioux City Wednesday [Video]

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – It’s a story of kindness that came out of a horrific national tragedy. When terrorists attacked U.S. soil on September 11th, 2001, hundreds of airplanes were flying over or flying to the U.S.

Those planes were grounded immediately, some flying to other countries and becoming stranded for days. Thousands ended up in Gander, Newfoundland.

“And the pilot came on the intercom and said, due to a terrorist attack in the United States, we’ll be landing in Gander. I didn’t even know what country that was, is it Canada or Iceland, or Greenland,” Kevin Tuerff was flying from Paris to New York City when the U.S. airspace was closed. His was one of 38 planes that landed in Gander, Newfoundland. “9,000 people live in the town, all of a sudden, with all the people from those 38 planes, there are 7,000 Strangers, passengers from 90 different countries.”
