N.B. news: Covered bridge remains closed [Video]

Not much has changed at the Midway/Germantown Covered Bridge in New Brunswick since last summer.

Located near Riverside-Albert, the 121-year-old structure was closed in June after a regular inspection.

The closure has forced Hilyard and Sylvia Rossiter to take a roughly 30-minute detour to get to the main road to Moncton.

“Nothing. They haven’t done nothing, hardly,” said Hilyard.

Sylvia said they’ve been trying to get answers from the province for months on when it will be repaired.

“They said they’re still trying to figure out what they’re going to do. Seven months later and they still don’t know? That’s not really acceptable. Nothing we can do,” said Sylvia.

The Rossiters said the condition of the unpaved road isn’t too bad, but they believe the detour is a big inconvenience for them and the 10-to-12 people who live on Midway Road.
