Former Halifax mayor Mike Savage will be sworn in as Nova Scotia’s next lieutenant-governor on Friday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Savage’s appointment as the province’s 34th lieutenant-governor in October.

Savage was the mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality for 12 years; he announced back in February he wouldn’t run in the next municipal election. Former Liberal MP Andy Fillmore was elected in October.

Savage replaces Arthur J. LeBlanc, who was appointed as Nova Scotia’s lieutenant-governor in 2017.

His swearing-in ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in the Red Chamber at Province House.
