WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality has issued a Code Red Air Quality Action Day for Brunswick County on Saturday.
According to NCDEQ, the Boiling Spring Lakes wildfire is producing a significant amount of smoke that will likely continue to move north and northeast.
A code red means the air quality could be unhealthy for all individuals. Residents should limit long exposure and take frequent breaks.
New Hanover County is under a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day, meaning the air quality is unhealthy for those who are sensitive to air pollution. People who are sensitive to air pollution should avoid long outdoor exertion and possibly reschedule outdoor activities.
Sensitive groups include people with asthma, children, elderly adults, people with heart or lung conditions, pregnant women, and outdoor workers.
The alerts are in effect from now until midnight Saturday.
