WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – North Carolina Governor Josh Stein gave an update on the winter weather across the state on Wednesday after declaring a state of emergency on Tuesday.

“Snow began in the mountains earlier this morning and will continue moving eastward throughout the afternoon and evening,” he said at the press conference in Raleigh.

This storm comes less than a month after a snowstorm plowed through the state, including southeastern North Carolina.

This time, we aren’t expecting inches of snow to hit here at home.

“Thankfully for us, we seem to be on the more rainy side of this event,” said North Carolina Department of Transportation maintenance engineer Battle Whitley.

However, temperatures are dropping lower by the hour, and freezing rain and ice is a real possibility.

“We did prepare, making sure all our equipment is ready to go, we made sure we had salt spreaders loaded,” said Whitley.
