Nearly 1,000 Gallons of diesel fuel spilled near the Yukon River [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Native Alaskan Tribes are speaking out against the Yukon Flats Oil Exploration after around 1,000 gallons of diesel were spilled near the Yukon River Campground.

According to documents from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, on April 4, a diesel fuel truck owned by Brice Inc. was parked in the southeast corner of the Yukon River Camp lease parking lot that is across the road from the Yukon River Campground. The truck was shut off with no indication of leaks or issues.

Two days later, a Yukon River Camp worker alerted Brice Inc. to a spill from the fuel truck.

“When it was initially reported, it was initially an unknown volume, and then they called in shortly after with an estimate of 500 to 1,000 gallons,” Northern Region State On-Scene Coordinator with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, Kimberley Maher, said.
