New accessible viewing platform, trail opens at Spahats Falls in Wells Gray Provincial Park [Video]

CLEARWATER, B.C. — A new accessible viewing platform at Spahats Falls in Wells Gray Provincial Park has opened to the public Saturday (May 24), about a year after a similar platform was opened at Helmcken Falls.

Just like at Helmcken Falls, the old wooden viewing platform has been replaced with a new fully accessible platform that Tourism Wells Gray says was built to withstand the elements and accommodate visitors of all mobility levels.

“This is a significant step forward for tourism in our region,” Claire Hanna, the Executive Director at Tourism Wells Gray, said. “The new platform not only improves safety and accessibility but also supports long-term sustainability for one of our most visited sites.”

The new platform has no stairs giving people in wheelchairs or other mobility devices unobstructed access to the waterfalls. The new fully accessible trail also features interpretive signs that highlight the cultural and ecological importance of the site, about 11 kilometres north …
