UAW Region 9 backs President Trump’s tariffs, though the impact of those tariffs remain unclear.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Now that President Donald Trump has announced his tariff policy for the auto industry here in the United States and Canada, we’re taking a closer look at potential impacts on our local Western New York auto plants. 

The GM plant in Oshawa, Ontario, made a big splash with production of the popular and profitable Silverado pickup truck at their massive sprawling assembly plant off the QEW.

And it is a reminder that GM and Ford both have major production links from Buffalo, with vehicle components shipped by truck across our bridges to head north toward Toronto, with a Ford assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, for the Ford Edge model and, again, that GM assembly site in Oshawa. 

But apparently a wrench my have been thrown into that established cross-border production line connection …
