After many years of demand for a second full-service hospital in one of Ontario’s fastest-growing cities, construction has begun on what will become the city’s second hospital.
Today, the Ontario government announced the official groundbreaking of William Osler Health System’s new Peel Memorial Hospital. The project involves a significant expansion of the existing Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, a facility that currently specializes in outpatient services.
A William Osler representative told INsauga.com that the expansion will create a new hospital and that the existing facility will remain open for patients during construction.
The province says that once complete, the new hospital will offer new and enhanced services, including a 24-hour emergency department. It will also offer additional specialized care for patients who need to stay in the hospital for longer.
