A first-of-its-kind figurine is paying tribute to the founder of Manitoba.

Louis Riel and Amelia Douglas are being depicted through a new Lego creation in what’s thought to be the first-ever Lego set of Métis figures.

“This was really cool to actually do something that depicted Métis figures specifically and relatively accurately,” said Lego hobbyist Andrew Delbaere.

Delbaere said the idea came about through the Métis-owned marketing agency he works for in British Columbia. He explained the agency created the Lego figures through its involvement in the Louis Riel Day celebrations in Fort Langley, B.C.

“We made this little make-and-take Louis Riel and Amelia Douglas Lego figures that people got to come to the event, put them together and they also got a little instruction sheet with information about both Louis and Amelia,” he said.
