New speed enforcement cameras are coming to a major city in Ontario this month.

The City of Vaughan said that speed cameras will soon be active in 10 “community safety zones.”

Signs warning drivers that the cameras are coming were first installed at the selected locations in October, the City said.

“These locations were chosen using a data-driven approach to identify areas where speeding is of concern, prioritizing sites based on overall traffic volume, collision history and the presence of sidewalks, cycling facilities, schools, parks, community centres and libraries,” the City said.

“The mobile cameras will be rotated periodically in key areas across the city. Once the cameras are operational, ‘municipal speed camera in use’ signs will replace the existing signage.”
