New York Democrats Propose Seceding To Canada and Withholding Federal Taxes To Protest Trump [Video]

Democratic lawmakers from New York have proposed a radical response to Donald Trump’s potential return to the presidency: secession from the United States.

State Sen. Liz Krueger (D-28) is advocating for a coalition of northeastern states to break away from the Union and join Canada, citing concerns about the direction of the country under Trump’s leadership.

Krueger, who chairs the Senate Finance Committee, is also suggesting a bold financial move—holding back up to $300 billion in federal taxes from Washington. She defended her ideas in an interview with Politico, saying, “It’s not unreasonable to think outside of the box.”

The senator’s plan isn’t new. Back in September, she hinted at the possibility of a four-state coalition—New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut—seceding to become the south-east province of Canada if Trump reclaimed the presidency.
