Nigerian films – ‘Nollywood’ – take over theatre in Ontario city [Video]

You’ve heard of Bollywood? The next wave of international cinema could vewery well be films from Nigeria, with the productions dubbed ‘Nollywood.’

With more than $6.4 billion in revenue and more than 2,500 movies per year, Nigeria’s film industry is the fastest growing film market in the world, producing more movies each year than even Hollywood, and ‘Nollywood’ is taking over the Regent Theatre in downtown Oshawa on February 26.

Residents and movie lovers are invited to attend the free event to experience a night filled with live performances and discussion and a film screening.

Hosted by the City of Oshawa, Ontario Tech University’s Faculty of Social Science and Humanities and Ontario Tech Student Life, Explore Nollywood is committed to honouring the contributions that Black people have made and continue to make in all areas of society, and in particular, Nigerian media.
