TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Up on Mt. Lemmon, high temperatures are leaving businesses on standby for another winter passing without bringing much-needed water.
Rodger Gollogly’s first memory of Mt. Lemmon brings him back every year from Canada.
“That year it snowed,” Gollogly said, “and I decided ‘well, I’m going to come up here and go skiing and it was great!”
This year, that snow remains just a memory.
“We’re just ready for snow or rain,” Ski Valley Area Manager Graham Davies said. “Anything would be good.”
Without thrill seekers having precipitation to let them take on the slopes, people like Rodger are what the Mt. Lemmon economy is depending on.
“We rely on tourism over the summer and when we’re not skiing in the winter, the tourists keep us afloat,” Davies said.
Compared to years prior, they’re few and far between.
“Without that snow, people won’t come up and they don’t play in the snow and they don’t buy stuff so we need that,” Mt. Lemmon …
