SOUTHPORT, N.C. (WECT) – The North Carolina Secretary of State stopped in Brunswick County as part of her tour of the state.

Elaine Marshall visited three small businesses during her Southport tour, including Throw Baxe, Cattail Cottage, and Hive Sweet Home. She ended the day with a roundtable discussion at Brunswick Community College discussing the small business climate with community owners.

When asked for an example of what a common mistake small business owners make, Marshall shared her thoughts.

“The inability to plan out, not enough capital in the beginning, and not enough cash flow, then later on. So that’s always difficult. Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, it’s for those that are diligent, persevere, and have a passion to do what they wanna do,” said Secretary Marshall.

The future for many business owners is uncertain due to new federal tariffs.
