LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – Novant Health broke ground on a new outpatient surgery center in Brunswick County on Tuesday.
The new facility will offer various specialists, including urology, orthopedic, and general surgery.
According to Novant Health officials, the new surgery facility will cut wait times in half.
Heather King-Semple, President and COO at Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center, says the 16,000 square foot surgery center will double their capacity.
“Currently at Brunswick Medical Center, we have four ORs and a procedure room,” said King-Semple. “This is going to allow us here at the new center to have four and two ORs and two procedure rooms, so it’s basically doubling our capacity and also will allow us to have more opportunities for same-day surgeries.”
Hospital leaders say the expansion supports efforts to bring surgeons to the area.
The new facility is set to open next year.
