Nurse facing theft charges in Ontario long-term care home investigation [Video]

A former nurse working at long-term care homes in Oshawa and Bowmanville is facing multiple theft charges after an investigation into a suspect who police say was entering rooms in long-term care homes and stealing resident belongings.

Durham Police were able to identify the woman and she was arrested at her Clarington residence on June 6.

East Division Criminal Investigations Branch began an investigation last Tuesday into a woman who was entering long-term care homes. Once in the homes, Durham Police said, the woman went into resident rooms, stealing their belongings.

Investigators believe there may be other victims. The woman is described as white with a medium build and red hair and usually wearing a pink and purple scrub top and dark colored pants.

Kayla Summers, 35, has been charged with break-and-enter, theft under $5,000 and fraud.
