NY weather: Be ready for damaging winds and quarter-sized hail with thunderstorms in New York Sunday [Video]

On Sunday at 2:51 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning valid until 3:45 p.m. for Monroe, Orleans and Wayne counties.

Wind gusts of up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail (1 inch) are anticipated.

“At 2:50 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Hamlin Beach State Park, moving east at 45 mph,” according to the weather service. “Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Rochester, Greece, Irondequoit, Brockport, Hilton, Webster, Gates-North Gates, Hamlin Beach State Park, Ontario and Williamson.

The weather service states, “For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.”
