NY weather: Pea-sized hail expected with thunderstorms in New York Saturday [Video]

A report was issued from the National Weather Service on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 6:15 p.m. for Monroe, Wayne, Livingston and Ontario counties.

Prepare for pea-sized hail (0.25 inches) and wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

“At 5:30 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Honeoye Falls, or 9 miles south of Brighton, moving east at 25 mph,” says the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Rochester, Canandaigua, East Rochester, Fairport, Brighton, Henrietta, Penfield, Palmyra, Victor, Honeoye Falls, Bristol, Lima, Bloomfield, Farmington, Walworth, Mendon, East Bloomfield, Rush, West Bloomfield and Manchester. This includes the following highways: Interstate 390 between exits 9 and 12. Interstate 90 between exits 43 and 46.

The weather service comments, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.”
