NY weather: Quarter-sized hail and damaging winds predicted with thunderstorms to hit New York Saturday [Video]

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning at 4:31 p.m. on Saturday valid until 5:30 p.m. for Genesee, Livingston, Monroe and Ontario counties.

The storms are expected to bring quarter-sized hail (1 inch) and wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

“At 4:31 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Le Roy, or 9 miles east of Batavia, moving northeast at 30 mph,” says the weather service. “Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Rochester, Greece, Irondequoit, Chili, East Rochester, Webster, Fairport, Brighton, Gates-North Gates and Henrietta. This includes the following highways: Interstate 390 between exits 10 and 12. Interstate 90 between exits 45 and 47.

The weather service comments, “For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.”
