NY weather update: Tornado with quarter-sized hail in Ontario and Wayne counties Monday [Video]

On Monday at 4:55 p.m. an updated tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 5:15 p.m. for Ontario and Wayne counties.

Quarter-sized hail (1 inch) is predicted with the incoming storm.

“At 4:54 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Canandaigua, moving east at 40 mph,” states the weather service. “Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Geneva, Canandaigua, Newark, Lyons, Clifton Springs, Clyde, Phelps, Manchester, Shortsville and Seneca Castle. This includes Interstate 90 between exits 42 and 43.
