NY weather: Weather alert for strong thunderstorms in New York Friday midday [Video]

A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Friday at 11:41 a.m. for strong thunderstorms until 12:15 p.m. for Schenectady, Saratoga, Albany and Rensselaer counties.

Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 40 mph.

“At 11:41 a.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Albany, moving north at 35 mph,” according to the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”

Locations impacted by the alert include Albany, Troy, Clifton Park, East Greenbush, Cohoes, Watervliet, Rensselaer, Colonie, Latham, Delmar, Menands, Green Island, Waterford, Loudonville, Center Brunswick, Wyantskill, Wynantskill, Halfmoon, South Troy and Shakers. This includes the following highways: Interstate 90 between exits 9 and 24. Interstate 87 between exits 23 and 7, and between exits 8A and 9. Interstate 787 between exits 1 and 9.

According to the weather service, “If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.”
