The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 1:43 p.m. on Monday for strong thunderstorms until 2:15 p.m. for Saratoga, Albany and Rensselaer counties.
Residents may experience wind gusts of up to 40 mph.
“At 1:43 p.m., Doppler radar tracked strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Cohoes to Albany to near Delmar. Movement was northeast at 10 mph,” according to the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.”
Locations impacted by the alert include Albany, Troy, Cohoes, Watervliet, Rensselaer, Colonie, Latham, Delmar, Menands, Green Island, Waterford, Loudonville, Center Brunswick, Wynantskill, South Troy, Lansingburgh, Shakers, Bleecker Stadium, Slingerlands and Normansville. This includes the following highways: Interstate 90 between exits 9 and 24. Interstate 87 between exits 23 and 7. Interstate 787 between exits 1 and 9.
