Federal Minister of Transport and Internal Trade Anita Anand announced on Saturday that she will not be entering the race for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada.

At the same time, Anand also announced on the social media platform X that she will not be running in the next federal election.

Until then, she plans to “work with the same energy and passion to serve the citizens of the riding of Oakville and to fulfill her responsibilities as a Member of Parliament.”

Anand was among the potential successors to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his upcoming resignation on Monday.

Anand has held several ministerial positions, serving as Minister of Public Services and Procurement during the COVID-19 pandemic and later as Minister of National Defense, President of the Treasury Board, and most recently, Minister of Transport.
