OceanGate has halted all exploration and commercial activities following the recent collapse of their vehicle during a mission to the Titanic wreckage. The incident, which occurred off the coast of Canada, has raised concerns about the regulations governing deep-sea voyages. The company had scheduled two trips in June 2024, as shown on their website. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse. Prior to the incident, a former employee named David Lochridge had expressed concerns about safety and quality control issues to OceanGate’s management, but he was allegedly met with hostility and subsequently terminated in 2018. Additionally, industry expert William Kohnen warned OceanGate that their vehicle’s design and construction lacked independent third-party checks, posing a risk to their 40-year safety record.
