Odessa traffic stop leads to arrest of Interpol murder fugitive [Video]

The 37-year-old man is in the Ector County Jail pending extradition to El Salvador, Odessa Police said.

ODESSA, Texas — A traffic stop on a truck pulling a trailer with expired registration in Odessa led to the arrest of a murder suspect wanted by Interpol.

The Odessa Police Department said just after midnight Thursday, OPD Sgt. Jaime Aguirre saw a white Chevrolet Kodiak towing a trailer near Yukon Road and Dixie Boulevard. A computer check showed the trailer’s registration had expired in November 2023.

A traffic stop was conducted on the Kodiak and the driver was identified as 37-year-old Jesus Alberto Villegas Monteagudo. 

A Texas Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center check showed Monteagudo had an Interpol warrant out of El Salvador for murder.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Monteagudo was arrested for being a fugitive from justice and taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center, …
