A police officer shot a male who was attacking a female in Markham, according to police.
Officers responded to a welfare check at 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday on Buchanan Dr., York Regional Police said on X.
Police said the officers arrived on scene and found a male “actively attacking a female.”
The male was shot, police said.
Both the male and female were transported to a trauma centre, police said. Police didn’t release further details about the two people.
Police said there is a large police presence in the area.
The Special Investigations Unit are investigating and have arrived on scene, according to reports. The SIU is responsible for investigating circumstances involving police that have resulted in a death or serious injury, or if a firearm was discharged at a person.
