Officers charged in tragic wrong-way crash on Ontario highway make first court appearance [Video]

A pair of Durham Regional Police officers charged in the wrong-way crash on Highway 401 last April that led to the deaths of four people – including a baby boy and his grandparents, who had arrived from India just two days before – will make their first court appearance Thursday morning.

Sgt. Richard Flynn – a 30-year police veteran – and Const. Brandon Hamilton were both charged with three counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of criminal negligence causing serious injuries after a nine-month investigation by the province’s Special Investigation Unit into the April 29 police pursuit that led to the tragic collision.

Flynn and Hamilton will appear in Superior Court of Justice in Oshawa at 11:30 a.m.
